How to Search Weld County Court Records
The Colorado Judicial Branch runs the official free search at the Weld County docket page. The page lists every Weld County District Court and County Court hearing within the chosen date range. It returns hearing date, time, case number, party name, hearing type, courtroom, and appearance type. The 19th Judicial District serves only Weld County, so the County filter set to Weld is enough to pull local cases.
Before starting, gather what you know about the case. A case number, a party name, a filing year, or an attorney bar number all help narrow the result list. The Judicial Branch's access guide notes that the docket tool is not a full case-file search. Copies of decrees, orders, and dispositions come through the records request form or the court counter.
A look at the Weld docket search form shows the live filters and the case-class dropdown.
The form requires at least one filter in addition to date, so a date range alone will not run.
- Open the Weld docket page and confirm Weld County in the County filter.
- Pick a date range. Choices include Today, 1 Week, 1 Month, 3 Months, 6 Months, or a specific date.
- Choose Court Type: Both, County, or District. Felonies and divorce sit in District; misdemeanors, traffic, and small claims sit in County.
- Add a case number (year + class + sequence), a party name, or an attorney bar number to narrow results.
- Read the result row for hearing date, courtroom, and appearance type. For document copies, switch to the records request form.
Note: the docket result page never shows downloadable PDFs, so a full case file always needs the record/document request form or a clerk visit.

Types of Weld County Court Records
The 19th Judicial District creates and stores many kinds of case records. The case-class code at the start of each case number signals the type. CR is felony. M is misdemeanor. T is traffic. DR covers divorce and other domestic relations. JV is juvenile. PR is probate. CV is civil. CW covers water court matters heard by the Water Division 1 judge seated at the Weld County Courthouse.
The Colorado trial-courts overview sorts these between District Court and County Court. District handles felonies, divorce, probate, juvenile, mental health, and civil cases of any amount. County handles misdemeanors, traffic, small claims, eviction, protection orders, and civil cases under $25,000.
The trial-courts overview page from the state shows how Colorado splits work between the two levels.
The split matters because the case class points to which court holds the file.
- Criminal records (CR felony, M misdemeanor) hold the complaint, charges, disposition, sentence, and any protection orders.
- Civil records (CV, C, S) hold complaints, answers, motions, orders, judgments, garnishments, and satisfactions.
- Domestic relations (DR) hold divorce decrees, parenting plans, separation agreements, support orders, and petitions.
- Probate (PR) holds wills, letters, trusts, applications, claims, and closing documents.
- Juvenile (JV, JD) files are not open in the same way as adult cases and may show only generic parties in docket entries.
- Traffic (T) files hold tickets, advisement dates, pleas, sentences, and payment plans.
- Water (CW) files hold water-rights matters heard at the courthouse for Water Division 1.
What Weld County Court Records Show
A full Weld County court file holds far more than the docket result row. Hearing entries are the bare bones. The case file holds the actual pleadings, orders, plea forms, sentencing orders, and judgment text. Common fields seen on a Weld case record include the items below. Most are visible to the public unless a court order, statute, or directive blocks them.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Case Number | Year + class + sequence, like 2022DR30366 or 2025M2689. |
| Filing Date | Date the case opened in District or County Court. Year range goes back to 1873. |
| Parties | Plaintiff/defendant, petitioner/respondent, or The People of the State of Colorado in criminal cases. |
| Judge | Division judge assigned to the case in the 19th Judicial District. |
| Charges | For CR and M cases, statute and offense level. Multiple counts may appear. |
| Disposition | Outcome: plea, dismissal, verdict, deferred judgment, or other resolution. |
| Sentence | Jail, prison, probation, fine, restitution, community service, or court-ordered conditions. |
| Register of Action | Chronological filing list across the case, requested through the records form. |
Case numbers follow a fixed pattern. A 2024 felony reads 2024CR followed by a sequence. A 2026 juvenile reads 2026JV plus a sequence. A traffic case reads 2022T plus a sequence. Knowing the class makes filter use much faster.
Public Access Framework for Weld County Court Records
Colorado lays public access on several stacked frameworks. The Colorado Open Records Act, C.R.S. § 24-72-201 et seq., sets the base rule for most state and local administrative records. The Criminal Justice Records Act, C.R.S. § 24-72-301 et seq., covers arrest, charging, disposition, and correctional records held by criminal justice agencies. Court files sit under Chief Justice Directive 05-01, which the Colorado Judicial Branch amended effective August 1, 2025.
Any person may inspect a court record under CJD 05-01 unless the file is sealed, suppressed, or restricted by statute or court order. The Judicial Branch processes most online requests within three business days unless the file is off-site, restricted, or requires redaction. Copy fees on the record form are $0.25 per page, with a $15 cap for parties and their attorneys and no cap for non-parties. Certified or exemplified copies run $20 per document. A name search costs $5. Off-site retrieval is billed at actual cost. Research and redaction run $30 per hour after the first hour.
Fee waivers are available under CJD 06-01 and C.R.S. § 13-32-104(1)(a) for qualifying indigent users. The record/document request form is the right route for divorce decrees, probate letters, dispositions, registers of action, and certified copies. A page from the Judicial Branch shows the live form and its fee table.
Fill in the party name, case type, county (Weld), and the case number if known.
Note: Full case-file search is not on the Judicial Branch website; commercial vendor sites may show register of actions, but copies of court documents come from the court itself.
Records That Are Sealed or Confidential in Weld County
Some Weld County court records are not open. Juvenile records under C.R.S. § 19-1-304 and the rest of the Colorado Children's Code carry strong confidentiality limits. The state's record request page warns that juvenile and probate files may require a U.S. government-issued photo ID and may still be denied. Suppressed cases sit fully outside public view, and the Clerk of Court will not confirm or release detail without proper authority.
Probate records can hold trust terms, medical information, or guardianship details that the court treats as protected. Military discharge records under C.R.S. § 24-72-204(3)(a)(XVIII) are only released to the veteran or eligible family members with photo ID, and DD-214 copies are free. Adult criminal records sealed under C.R.S. § 24-72-706 stay hidden from public search but remain visible to courts, prosecutors, and certain background-check entities. Sealing is not the same as physical destruction.
To view a sealed or restricted record, a person usually needs party status, attorney status, statutory authority, or a court order. A petitioner must file in the court that handled the case. For more on these limits, see Weld County public records and the linked CJD 05-01 access guide.
